Reporting to the respective Project Manager, this position is responsible for final tender preparation and contract administration for Capital Works Projects including roads, bridges, sewers, buildings, parks, parking lots and park amenities.
This position will be responsible for:
Completing quantity takes-offs and reviews drawings and quantity schedules prepared by the designer for clarity.
Reviewing drawings from consultants, Region, other departments and Utilities, for clarity and completeness and submits required changes.
Preparing tender documents, including tender advertisements for Capital Works Projects, attend tender openings and prepare reports for Council.
Preparing payment certificates, change work orders, purchase orders, etc.
Providing project management on smaller projects from planning stage through design and construction to final acceptance, including responsibility for budgets, cost control and scheduling.
Attending site meetings and visits site on a regular basis.
Approving and/or initiating changes of a minor consequence on projects and recommends solutions to more serious field problems to Supervisor.
Monitoring cost of construction in the field and monitors tender quantities with Supervisor and Field Services staff. Recommends partial payment when appropriate.
The successful applicant will have a 3 year community college diploma in civil engineering and a minimum of 5 years experience co-ordinating capital works projects, specifically in municipal roadway construction. Proficiency with MS office, (Word and Excel) is essential. Experience with Builterra contract administration software and bid&tenders procurement management software, would be an asset. In addition, you have excellent communication skills and problem solving abilities. A Valid Driver’s License with a Clean Abstract as deemed by the City is required.
