Location
This position is required to work in person at various sites across the City. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.
Position Overview
The City of Burlington is accepting applications for Summer Program Leaders for the following camp areas:
Summer Program Leaders report to the Recreation Programmer or the Recreation Coordinator and work at various locations throughout Burlington. Program Leaders can look to the Senior Leader, Specialized Leaders and Assistant Programmers for support, guidance and mentoring at times the Recreation Programmer is not available. Positions run from July to the end of August, with occasional training hours in June. Hours worked at are anywhere from 0-40 hours per week with a maximum of 44. Please note that positions and schedules may vary based on program registrations and regulations around the current health situation.
Responsibilities
Summer Program Leaders are responsible for planning and implementing creative and varied programs to meet the needs and interests of all participants. Successful applicants will be responsible for the safety and supervision of participants both on and offsite and are expected to implement and participate in activities. Summer Program Leaders will assist with all aspects of camp while providing and coordinating a high-quality program. As an inclusive program for all abilities, all staff must be prepared to support all participants, including individuals with disabilities. Certain positions may require administrative support and/ or supervision of other program staff.
Requirements
Experience working with children ages 4-10 in a camp or recreational setting is an asset. You can provide an experience of inclusivity to all ages and abilities.
Your confidence and patience are complemented by strong communication, time management, and organization skills. You are creative and demonstrate both active learning and active listening. You have a keen awareness to and understanding of others’ reactions and behaviours.
Some physical exertion is required, which may include lift assistance or behaviour management techniques to participants. You are required to set up program space, which may involve light lifting (e.g., program equipment).
Attendance and completion of all City of Burlington mandatory training – Current Training dates include June 8, 10, 11, 17 plus additional days specific to role or placement. Training dates subject to change due to Program needs. Additional requirements for training included in OTR.
You must be 15 years of age as of the start of July 3rd, 2023.

Police Check Requirement
This position requires the successful candidate to provide a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening at their own expense.

Additional Opportunity
Community Gardens Assistant: Monday, May 1 to Friday, June 30. Same pay rate as Program Leader position ($. Daytime flexible hours on a part time basis. Physical work outdoors to maintain the grounds and flower beds of the common areas of one to five community gardens. Dress in weather appropriate clothing, hat and closed toe shoes. Reporting to the Community Garden Coordinator. Some safety training required in late April or early May. Gardens are accessible by transit, or a personal vehicle.
