Description
Position Overview
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, Facilities & Buildings, this position is responsible for leading facility renewal and enhancement projects which will include new construction, mechanical and electrical upgrades, lifecycle renewal and revitalization requiring project management expertise.
Responsibilities
The Project Manager – Facilities & Buildings is responsible to:
- Provide project management for design and construction of municipally-owned facilities.
- Manage project lifecycles and contract administration through the design, construction and warranty.
- Provide oversight for internal staff teams as well as engineers, architects and other consultants engaged in facility projects and review work to ensure that design, tender documents and procurement documents are completed and meet architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical industry standards, regulatory and Building Code requirements.
- Participate in implementing and maintaining site and public safety measures.
- In collaboration with the City’s Corporate Energy & Emissions Coordinator implement standards to reduce the Green House Gas emissions for municipally owned facilities.
- Research best practices and industry trends on applicable legislation and emerging areas of focus with respect to project management and construction (e.g. accessibility, sustainable design).
- Represent the department and City of Burlington on corporate initiatives and teams liaising on an ongoing basis with internal partners, and external agencies.
- Provide accountability for financial control of all projects, including managing government grants and subsidies and preparing requests for Proposal (RFP), Requests for Quotation (RFQ) and Tenders.
- Respond to public, staff and elected officials’ inquiries and complaints, resolving matters including participation in decisions or actions taken; oversees and prepares reports for Council approval, represents the department at corporate and community meetings and functions on related assigned projects.

Qualified applicants will have a sound knowledge of Building Sciences gained through a 4-year university degree in Engineering or Architecture Technology (CET). In addition, at least five (5) years of recent work experience with significant exposure to project management. Sound knowledge of carbon neutral strategies and energy efficiencies in mechanical and electrical systems as well as using AutoCAD. Project management skills, excellent communications and negotiation skills, a proven orientation for detail and strong organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines is essential. The successful applicant will also have a track record as a collaborative team player who can work independently and creatively to assist in developing new technical and logistical solutions.
